Local Businesses Support Sullivan County Public Health Messages

Public health has teamed up with two of our local cab companies in order to spread health messages to our residents.

Allan Kesten owner of Yellow Cab shows Carol Ryan(Director of Public Health) the new Eat Healthy Move More stickers he placed( free of charge) inside all of his Yellow cabs.

Gary Putter (owner) shows the new ads on Sureway Taxis. Public health is very appreciative at the reduced costs to advertise important anti-tobacco messages such as this one. “ Smoking? Table for One……….”

 

 

 

The following towns have adopted the Young Lungs Resolution for their Playgrounds and Park areas:  Town of Lumberland, Forestburgh, and Bethel.

Carol Ryan, the Sullivan County Public Health Director, has been awarded a Rural Minority Health Grant  for the upcoming two years  2012-2013.

 

The Roscoe School District  was  awarded on Feb 1, 2012  the Gold Award for the Healthier US School Challenge.

This award recognizes excellence in efforts to improve Nutrition and Physical Activity.  This award reflects the commitment of the teachers and administration, food service manager and staff, the students, and community members, all working together to implement policy and environmental changes.

 

 

Local Fall Harvest

The Roscoe Cafeteria will be celebrating our “Local Fall Harvest” the first week of November. Some local farms * in Sullivan County have donated various vegetables to these schools: Roscoe, Sullivan West, Tri Valley and BOCES. The Roscoe cafeteria will be making some Pumpkin Muffins, Apple crisp, Pumpkin Soup, and a few other items for the students and staff to sample the first week of November. These are participating farms:

Catskill Harvest Market, Saunderskill Farm, Justus Asthalter Maple Syrup Inc., Diehl Family Farms, Trussbridge Farm, Tonjes Farm Dairy, Beaver Dam Brook Farm, Sonoma Falls Cider Mill & Country Store

Wellness Fair

Staff (Laura Rodriquez and guest) from New Hope Community in Liberty, NY attended the company’s Wellness Fair on October 6th and accepted the walking challenge from Public Health Services.

The women will try to increase their steps by 2,000 additional ones each day. They each received a pedometer to keep a record of how they are doing.
